For the Make it Fly Student Design Challenge we want you to defy gravity. Design and make something using Fusion 360 that flies through the air.

While model rockets, RC airplanes, and DIY drones are always cool to see, we also want to challenge you to see what other creative solutions you might come up with. Surprise us with something unique like a pitching machine, a bubble maker, an ornithopter, or something else entirely. Any project that is related to free movement through the air in a safe manner is eligible.

Let your imagination run wild because the sky is the limit!

Any project deemed too dangerous, such as, but not limited to: weapons, throwing knives/stars, combustion-fueled projectile projects and similar, will not be allowed.

  • Design and make a project using Fusion 360 related to free motion through the air in a safe manner.
  • State the name of the school you attend in the introduction step of your project.
  • Entries must be submitted before 9/19/2023

How It Works

Write an Instructable

Create a new Instructable that fits the guidelines outlined in the contest description above. To be eligible, Instructables must be published between Jul 24, 2023 and Sep 18, 2023 (11:59pm PT).

Upon publishing your Instructable you'll see checkboxes for open contests. Select Make it Fly Student Design Challenge. If you have entries currently eligible for entry, it will also show up by clicking "Enter this Contest" on the right side of this page.

Entries are accepted by Instructables staff within one business day Monday - Friday. What matters is the submission time, not acceptance time.

A panel of judges made up of Instructables staff and respected members of the community rate the finalists. The averages of the ratings determine the winners.

When the winners are decided they will be notified and announced here on the contest page.
